Glenbrook Swimming Club - Home

03 March 2010 Country kids march on Homebush
The weekend of 26 and 7 February saw SOPAC inundated with country swimmers from all over NSW, from as far away as Dubbo, Coffs Harbour and Griffith. Amongst the swimmers were 15 competitors from Glenbrook Swimming Club, who along with swimming, also took part in the traditional march-past of clubs.
Among the swims included 6 finalists, and some great personal bests. Congratulations to all those who spent the long two days at the pool, and also many thanks to the parents and friends of the Club who volunteered in time-keeping, marshalling, starting, judging and other important roles. Glenbrook Swimming Club was very well-represented as technical officials, a great credit to our in-house technical training program. Our best results were achieved in the two relay teams, men and women swimming both freestyle and medley relays. Great swims! 18 February - Glenbrook Club swims at State Open

At the recent NSW State Open Championships Glenbrook Swimming Club’s top swimmers qualified to swim several races. This was a great experience for the girls, as it was an open event meaning they were competing against Stephanie Rice, Leisel Jones, and other big names in the swimming world. Lauren Silk placed best, with a fantastic 50m backstroke race in a personal best time of 31.77. This qualifies Lauren to compete at the upcoming Commonwealth Games trials in March. The swimmers’ race results are:

Christine Kidd: 59th 50m Butterfly 30.32,, 63rd 100m Breaststroke 1:22.27, 46th 50m Breaststroke 37.28, 62nd 200m IM 2:36.21
Lauren Silk: 39th 100m Backstroke 1:08.88, 25th 50m Backstroke 31.77 (PB)
Maya Suzuki: 67th 50m Butterfly 30.64 (PB), 78th 100m Freestyle 1:01.67, 55th 50m Freestyle 28.34, equal 103rd 100m Butterfly 1:10.62

The Club also entered its first-ever women’s 400m IM relay team, including the above three girls and Ellen Schulze as 4th swimmer, and came a respectable 20th against some very tough competition. The team’s time was 4:46.28.

Finally, the Club would like to congratulate Christine Kidd on her acceptance into Sydney University Swim Squad, a prestigious offer only open to elite swimmers with outstanding HSC results combined with top-level swimming achievements. Wonderful news and a great role model for up-and-coming swimmers from the Club!
