We were very unfortunate not to win the Country Championships March
Past again this year. Many
spectators thought we were robbed as we were vying for our fourth win in a
row. The kids were exceptional in
all aspects of the March with many parents surprised at the commitment
displayed by our group. Many thanks
to Brad and Leonie Kidd and Peter Lemon for instructing the team and organising uniforms. The whole team
participated in the March this year.
Thanks to the swimmers for setting
very high standards, making the competition very difficult to judge.
The last club night for this season will be on 19th March. This is to be a Theme Night and the theme will be gGreenh in lieu of St Patrickfs Day. We will be holding a BBQ and running some novelty events in the small pool with prizes. In the main pool there will be handicap brace relays. A team of two people add their 50m times together. Then all teams are handicapped to finish the race together. This is a lot of fun, so join in. If anyone can help with the novelty events please see Brad Kidd.
Any member who won a perpetual trophy at Presentation last year are
asked to return the trophy in preparation for the coming 2007 presentation
night. Also any CTS perpetual
trophies given out at presentation night last year also need to be
returned. Trophies can be left with
Leonie Kidd at the information table.
Stroke Correction on Saturdays has finished for this season. Thank you to our members for their
support of this
activity. Also a big thank
you to our organiser Karen Terry and her assistants: Allyssa Hale, Brenden
Purcell, Christine Kidd and Cherise Terry.
As the Annual General Meeting approaches, nominations for any position
on the committee will be called for on presentation night. If all members and
families could start contemplating what position they would like to fill. Positions are listed in the club
booklet. An explanation of job
specifications can be found in the clubfs Constitution book. See Brad Kidd for a copy of the
Constitution and any questions regarding positions.
There are some positions becoming vacant and it is always great to have
new people on board with new ideas. Remember: Without the formation of a
committee there will be no club.
The AGM will be held on Tuesday 15h May at 7.30pm in the pool
club room. Everyone is welcome to
attend and voice their opinions and ideas.

couple of weeks. Proceeds will go
towards representative costs. Pick
a number or more for $2 each. The
winner will receive $100.
A big thank you to all volunteers who helped at the CTS carnivals. These include all officials and
timekeepers. Thanks also to the huge support of swimmers from our club. All results will be announced at
Presentation Night.
Congratulations to the 22 Glenbrook swimmers that have been selected to
swim at an inter-district meet in Canberra on Sunday 25th March. Swimmers were chosen by CTS
selectors from times at CTS meets.
Club members look forward to this social weekend away to celebrate the
end of the season. Those selected
are: Eloise Trotter, Sophie Batey,
Alysia Hughes, Gabrielle Neale, Hugh Lloyd, Sally Lemon, Jeremy Hardy,
Alexandra Stallard, Emily Purcell, Brad Hoffman, William Healey, Brycen
Daniels, Christine Kidd, Lucy Collins, Monique Gallen, Allyssa Hale, Brenden
Purcell, Jarrod Hourigan, James Pike, Samantha Kidd, Emily Healey and Roy
Atherton. For some of our
swimmers this is their first Brophy Meet and they had been aiming for
this all season. The Glenbrook team
stays Saturday night at Rydges Eaglehawk Resort which has the best grounds for
the excited swimmers to run around.
This is a short travel distance to the Belconnen Pool. The Resort is situated on the northern
outskirts of Canberra. Some rooms
have been tentatively booked under gGlenbrook Swimming Clubh. The phone number
to book is 02 62416033. All
bookings must be made prior to Friday 10th March or rooms will be
released. See
Information table for more details. Payment for passes must be paid ASAP.
Program booklets must be pre-ordered and pre-paid by Monday 12th
March. More spectator passes will
be available on the weekend of the meet.
The Club is meeting the competitors entry cost of $25 each. This entry cost includes CTS Rep shirt
and silicone cap for each selected swimmer.
Local swimming clubs are combining through winter to swim winter club
nights. This will be held at
Springwood Pool on fortnightly Thursday nights from 6.45pm to 8.00/8.30pm. This is still in the process of being
organised. See the website for
further details. Clubs that have
expressed interest are Springwood and Glenbrook. There are no registration fees as your
current registration continues till 30 September. The only costs will be pool entry
and cards. There will be a
flexibility of all strokes and distances. Last year this was very popular
amongst our members and we hope to encourage more swimmers to come and swim.
The District is currently looking for a volunteer to help co-ordinate
the Winter Development Squad. This
is a great opportunity for keen swimmers that can swim
50 meters to continue with some stroke correction and training during the off
season. It is proposed that sessions will be held at Springwood Pool on a
fortnightly basis commencing in April or May. Session times are still be organised.
There are no fees payable for these sessions. If there is no co-ordinator for
the Lower Blue Mountains then Katoomba Pool will be the closest squad available.
The cumulation is a FREE Development Carnival held at the Homebush Pool in
September. Other Development squads
from various Districts in the State
will be competing at this carnival.
Glenbrook has had members participate in this squad in the past and have
found it very worthwhile. Anyone
that is interested please see the information table for an application form.
Contact Brad Kidd on 47398878 if interested in helping to co-ordinate. Refer to website for further details.
DONfT STOP BECAUSE IT IS
WINTER!!!!!
Swimming is a year round sport. Many children stop training through
winter but this is the ideal time to accumulate more fitness ready for next
season, and have an edge over your competitors. Training sessions continue, club nights
are available and carnivals are held throughout the state. Each month NSW Swimming publishes a
booklet which details upcoming carnivals, amongst other information. These carnivals are held in
various areas throughout the state all year round. If you are interested in participating
or would like to read these booklets they are available to all club members to
peruse. Entry cards are available
from Joanne Hale or Leonie Kidd.
See the NSW website (www.nswswimming.com.au
) which lists all upcoming carnivals and programs, (go to Calendar), qualifying
times, results, and much more. Also
check with Coach Corin Dobson for targeted carnivals.
