all officials and timekeepers. Thanks also to the huge support of swimmers from
our club. All results will be announced at Presentation Night.
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FAMILY
We have recently had a swimmer transfer to our club from another local club. 16
year old Daniel Melbourne has joined us and has already represented Glenbrook at
the Country Championships. We know all members will make him and his family feel
welcome.
NATIONAL SWIMMERS
Our best wishes go with Maya Suzuki and her family when she competes at the
Australian Age Championships in Brisbane in April. Maya has qualified to swim
the 13 years & under 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle. She becomes only the
second female swimmer in the history of our club to qualify. The first being
Allyssa Hale when she too was only 13.
Also to qualify is Daniel Melbourne. Daniel will be competing in the 16 years
100m Butterfly. Unfortunately he will not be listed as a Glenbrook swimmer but
as eUnattachedf due to the e3 month transfer NSW swimming rulef
Maya and Daniel will compete against the best in Australia and we wish them Good
Luck.
LAST CLUB NIGHT – gGREENh THEME
The last club night for this season will be on 17th March. This is to be a Theme
Night and the theme will be gGreenh in lieu of St Patrickfs Day. We will be
holding a BBQ and running some novelty events in the small pool with prizes. In
the main pool there will be Timed relays. A team of two people add their 50m
times together. The winners will be the team that swims closed to their
nominated time. There will be no finals. This is a lot of fun, so join in.
finals. It will simply be the team closest to the entry time without breaking
wins.
PRESENTATION NIGHT
Presentation night will be on Saturday 3rd May starting at 6.00pm at the
Glenbrook Primary School Hall, Woodville Street, Glenbrook. If all families
could bring a plate of food for afterwards. Please note this start time is
earlier than previous years.
RETURN CLUB & CTS PERPETUAL TROPHIES
Any member who won a perpetual trophy at Presentation last year are asked to
return the trophy in preparation for the coming 2008 presentation night. Also
any CTS perpetual trophies given out at presentation night last year also need
to be returned. Trophies can be left with Leonie Kidd at the information table.

messages from our members.

We have a small number of our senior teenage swimmers finishing up to
concentrate on school commitments and careers. We would like to wish them all
the best for their future endeavours: Allyssa Hale, Emily Healey, Roy Atherton

BROPHY MEET – CANBERRA - Sunday 30th March
The selections for Brophy should be announced tonight. Congratulations to all
swimmer selected.
This inter-district meet will be held on 30th March and is a fitting culmination
to summer swimming. It is a social weekend away with the Glenbrook swimmers of
the team staying together to bond – both swimmers and parents!!
For many years the Glenbrook team has stayed at Rydges Eaglehawk Resort on the
NSW/ACT northern border. This is then only a short drive to Belconnen Aquatic
Centre. Please contact the resort direct to book your room. Phone no. 02
62416033. The resort has recently had a million dollar refurbishment.
STATE AGE CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS (13 years –18 years)
Nine Glenbrook swimmers competed at the 13-18 years State Championships held at
Homebush in early January. Collectively their results were very impressive and a
sign of things to come. Between them they competed in 14 events including 12
individual swims and 2 relays.
Ellen Schulze competed in the 13 years 50m Freestyle. The date of the
Championships dictates which age group Ellen swims in. This year she jumped an
age group from 11 years to 13 years. Going into the event she was ranked 71st
but after a blistering 50m dash in a time of 29.95 she came out ranked 24th and
has broken the 30 second barrier.
Brad Hoffmann competed in 14 years 200m Butterfly. This event is for those with
endurance and Brad certainly has plenty of it. Finishing in a 4 second personal
best time of 2:30.16, he just missed the Finals and was placed 11th.
Christine Kidd had the largest program competing in 6 individual events in the
15 years age group. The 200m Medley was her best result with a huge PB of
2:34.49 and placed 20th. Her other results are: 14th 100m Breaststroke 1:22.17,
19th 200m Breaststroke 3:00.35 PB, 27th 50m Freestyle 29.66, 38th 100m Freestyle
1:04.63.
Allyssa Hale competed in her last State Age Championships. She competed in the
100m Breaststroke and placed 12th in a time of 1:22.92 and also the 200m
Breaststroke in which she placed 14th in a time of 3:00.08.
Brenden Purcell competed in the 16 years 100m Breaststroke. After a very fast
50m split, he finished 13th in a time of 1:15.69.
Roy Atherton competed in the 16 years 100m Breaststroke and placed 20th in a
time of 1:20.50.
13/14 years Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay - 23rd 2:00.85 PB (Chelsea Barton,
Lauren Silk, Cherise Terry and Ellen Schulze).
13/14 years Girls 4 x 50m Medley Relay – 15th 2:16.14 PB (Lauren Silk(Back),
Ellen Schulze(Breast),Chelsea Barton(Fly), Cherise Terry(Free)).
Congratulations to all these swimmers for reaching this highly competitive
level. For Lauren, Cherise and Chelsea this was their first taste of competition
at State level.
OPEN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
Two swimmers competed at the State Open Championships held recently. Maya Suzuki
swam in the 50m Freestyle and narrowly missed her National Qualifying Time
finishing in 29.02. Christine Kidd also qualified, swimming in four events. Her
results are: 100m Breast 1:23.20, 200m Medley 2:36.03, 100m Free 1:04.44 and 50m
Breast 37.22. Both were competing against the best swimmers in the Country.
Allyssa Hale and James Pike also qualified to swim.
.

Ulladulla Bowling Club who catered to the group of hungry swimmers and families.
The Club was very prepared and served terrific food. Recommended by all.
A large squad of 26 Glenbrook swimmers travelled to Ulladulla for the long
weekend to attend the Annual NSW Country Regional meet. With some tough
competition over the two days, the swimmers struggled home over-laden with

A huge effort was put in by all swimmers, and the familiar support of Glenbrook

away.
WINTER DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
The District Winter Development Squad will be on again throughout the cooler
season. This is a great opportunity for keen swimmers that can swim 50 meters to
continue with some stroke correction and training during the off season. It is
proposed that sessions will be held at Katoomba and Bathurst Pools on a
fortnightly basis commencing in April or May. No one has stepped forward to
co-ordinate out of the Springwood Pool. Session times are still be organised.
There are no fees payable for these sessions. The cumulation is a FREE
Development Carnival held at the Homebush Pool in September. Other Development
squads from various Districts in the State will be competing at this carnival.
Glenbrook has had members participate in this squad in the past and have found
it very worthwhile. Anyone that is interested please contact Brad Kidd on
47398878. Refer to website for further details
WINTER CLUB NIGHTS
Local swimming clubs are combining through winter to swim winter club nights.
This will be held at Springwood Pool. This is a 25m Short Course Pool. Details
are still being organised but last year it was on a fortnightly basis on a
Thursday night from 6.45pm to 8.00/8.30pm. Please keep an eye on the Club
website for further information. There are no registration fees as your current
registration continues till 30 September. The only costs will be pool entry and
cards. Just turn up on the night. There will be a flexibility of all strokes and
distances. Last year this was very popular amongst our members and we hope to
encourage more swimmers to come and swim.
PROMOTIONS OFFICER
The club is looking for someone to become Promotions Officer. The role will be
to take initiatives throughout the season to promote the existence of Glenbrook
Swim Club in an endeavour to increase our membership. Please see President Brad
Kidd for more details.

Unfortunately Brycen Daniels was unable to swim due to an injury.
Congratulations to all swimmers for a great weekend of results. Keep up the good
work.
COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS MARCH PAST
The Club also participated in the Country Championships March Past. The swimmers
displayed maturity and commitment but were unfortunately beaten by a better team
on the day. There were three stand out teams (Glenbrook, Kincumber and Oak
Flats). Kincumber Pacific Dolphins won the trophy this year in a striking black
and white uniform but we will be back next year: bigger and better.
Many thanks to Brad and Leonie Kidd for instructing the team and organising
uniforms. Thanks to the swimmers for setting very high standards once again,
making the competition very difficult to judge.

DONfT STOP BECAUSE IT IS WINTER!!!!!
Swimming is a year round sport. Many children stop training through winter but
this is the ideal time to accumulate more fitness ready for next season, and
have an edge over your competitors. Training sessions continue, club nights are
available and carnivals are held throughout the state. Each month NSW Swimming
publishes a booklet which details upcoming carnivals, amongst other information.
These carnivals are held in various areas throughout the state all year round.
If you are interested in participating or would like to read these booklets they
are available to all club members to peruse. Entry cards are available from
Joanne Hale. See the NSW website (www.nswswimming.com.au ) which lists all
upcoming carnivals and programs, (go to Calendar), qualifying times, results,
and much more. Also check with Coach Corin Dobson for targeted carnivals and
squad sessions.
