2008 Country Championships

Glenbrook Swimming Club had a record number of swimmers compete in the NSW Country Championships held at Homebush on the weekend.  Sixteen swimmers participated in a record 52 events.

The fantastic results are testament to the depth of swimmers in the club.

The highlight of the weekend came on Sunday with two Country medals.  16 year old James Pike placed second in the 100m Freestyle in 56.33, and Maya Suzuki (13) placed third in the 100m Freestyle in 1:02.92.  Maya also qualified for the National Championships in the 50m Freestyle swimming a very fast 28.91.

The club was successful with two medallists, fourteen finalists, 17 ‘Top 20’ and  27 PBs.  Their results are:

Eloise Trotter(9) – 10yrs & Under 100m Free – 11^th – 1:17.32 PB.

Sally Lemon – 12yrs 100m Breast – 7^th – 1:28.25 PB.

Luke Gagen – 12yrs 100m Breast – 9^th – 1:31.02 PB.

Maya Suzuki – 13yrs 100m  Free – 3^rd – 1:02.92, 100m Fly – 9^th – 1:12.96 PB, 100m Breast – 1:28.56 PB, 200m Free 2:20.63 PB, Open 50m Free – 18^th – 28.91 PB – National Time, Open 50m Fly 32.53.

James Pike – 16yrs 100m Free – 2nd – 56.33 PB, 100m Fly - 7^th - 1:04.80 PB,  100m Breast – 10^th - 1:18.82, 100 Back – 11^th - 1:11.33.

Roy Atherton – 16yrs 100m Breast – 13^th - 1:21.50,  100m Free – 14^th - 1:01.95.

Brenden Purcell – 16yrs 100m Breast – 4^th 1:15.54, Open 200m Breast – 10^th  – 2:43.84, 100m Breast – 8^th – 1:05.06, 50m Breast –13^th – 33.94.

Chelsea Barton, Lauren Silk, Christine Kidd, James Pike, Brad Hoffmann, Roy Atherton and  Brenden Purcell  were selected to swim in the District Medley Relay Teams. The Female team came 9^th and the Male team came 10^th. Special mention to Luke Gagen, Eloise Trotter, Lucy Collins, Lauren Silk and Daniel Melbourne who qualified to swim for the first time. Unfortunately Brycen Daniels was unable to swim due to an injury.   Congratulations to all swimmers for a great weekend of results. The Club also participated in the Country Championships March Past.  The swimmers displayed maturity and commitment but were unfortunately beaten by a better team on the day.
