SWIMATHON RULES
1) The annual Swimathon is a fund raising event whereby swimmers are encouraged to obtain sponsorship for each lap of the pool they swim.
2) The Swimathon will be conducted on a Saturday morning to be determined by the Management Committee.
3) The Swimathon shall be limited to a maximum of three (3) hours (i.e. 10am start – 1pm finish). Swimmers must complete their laps by the finishing time.
4) A Swimathon Entry Sheet must be presented at the Officials Table prior to commencing lap swimming. Each swimmer, after completing their laps, must ensure their lap-counter has signed their sheet verifying the distance swum, before reporting back to the Officials Table.
5) After completing their swim, swimmers must report to the Officials Table promptly. After recording the distance swum, the signed form will be returned to the swimmer to enable them to collect sponsorship monies. All monies so collected are to be handed to the Club Treasurer or Swimathon Organiser as soon as possible.
6) Lap-counters are to ensure each swimmer:-
a) completes full laps.
b) does not walk on the bottom of the pool.
c) does not hang onto either ends/sides of the pool or the lane ropes.
d) keeps swimming and does not stop.
e) does not have a toilet stop.
f) does not make use of any type of swimming aids.
7) Lap-counters are to advise swimmers that they can swim any stroke, even sidestroke or dog paddle. If swimmers want a rest they should be advised to float on their backs. If a swimmer leaves the water for any reason, then the count of laps prior to them stopping is the swimmersf credit and no further participation in the Swimathon is allowed.
8) An award will be given on Presentation Night to the top fundraiser.
9) Each swimmer will be acknowledged and rewarded on Presentation Night for their effort.
